Supporters bring the flags, banners, music, color, and energy that help define Q2. Those things are freely given by a community that expects its club to stand with it in return. When members of that community are questioning whether they are safe, welcome, or supported here, continuing as if nothing has happened does not feel right.
Over the past two weeks, we have met with Austin FC and raised serious concerns about supporter safety, stadium security and law enforcement, enforcement of the Fan Code of Conduct, and the impact these decisions are having on our Hispanic and immigrant communities.
We have tried to work with the club directly. We are still waiting for more visible action.
We need Austin FC to speak clearly and publicly about where it stands. We need a meaningful change of the policies and practices that brought us here. And we need the club to use its voice within MLS to advocate for policies that protect the people who make up this community.
We respect every supporter’s decision about how to participate tonight. Some will stay. Some will walk out. But the absence of our usual color is intentional.
No flags. No banners. No colors.
If the club wants the color, energy, and culture its supporters bring, it has to stand with the people who bring it.
